The Story of The Double Cola Company

Double Cola Building

1922

The Good Grape Company was founded by Charles D. Little and Joe S. Foster in Chattanooga, TN, primarily to market their grape soda product, Good Grape.

1924

Charles D. Little creates "Marvel Cola", which would one day become Double-Cola. They also changed the name of their growing business to the Seminole Flavor Company.

Jumbo Cola Picture

1924

Marvel Cola was reformulated. Little and Foster renamed their creation "Jumbo Cola."

Double Measure Double Pleasure

1933

Seminole finally perfects its cola recipe. They name their new flagship product Double-Cola, because its 12 ounce bottle was twice the size of other soda bottles being sold at the time.

1934-1935

Seminole introduces several more flavors, including Double-Orange, Double-Lemon, Double-Grape and Double-Dry Ginger Ale.

1953

Seminole changes its name to The Double Cola Company.

1956

Ski, a refreshing citrus soda made with real orange and real lemon juice, is introduced. The company asked employees to submit a name for their new product. Inspired by a weekend-long ski trip on the Chickamauga Lake, then-employee, Dot Myers, submitted the names "Ski" and "Skee" into the contest. Management liked the name and it's been Ski ever since.

Double-Cola becomes the first major soft drink to be marketed in a 16 oz. returnable bottle.

Diet Way is first introduced as the diet version of Double-Cola.

Diet Double Picture

1964

Diet Way is reintroduced to the market as Diet Double-Cola.

1970

The company changes ownership several times as it continues to grow, expanding in product lines and distribution areas.

1980

K.J. International Inc. purchases the company which becomes Double-Cola Co. - USA.

Diet Ski is introduced as a sugar-free alternative to regular Ski.

Old Bottle of Oranta

1995

Double-Cola Co.-USA introduces Oranta, an all-natural orange flavored soda. It becomes an international success, and goes on to be sold in several different countries around the world.

1996

Due to popular demand from Ski fans, Cherry Ski is added to the Ski family.

1998

Double-Cola Co.-USA relocates its corporate headquarters to a new location in the heart of downtown Chattanooga, TN.

2003

Double-Cola proudly celebrates its 70th anniversary.

Double-Cola Co.-USA unveils sleek, new Jumbo packaging.

Ski Logo

2009

Ski undergoes exciting and innovative package redesign for greater competitive edge. Highlighting the uniqueness of Ski, new graphics are introduced with the slogan, "Real Lemon. Real Orange. Real Good."

Diet Ski is reformulated with Splenda making it taste more like regular Ski, "New Look. New Taste. Pure Refreshment."

Cherry Ski is rebranded as Ski InfraRED to target its growing segment of the citrus category.

2010

Chaser makes its return to the USA.

Diet Double-Cola is reformulated with Splenda to make it taste more like regular Double-Cola.

2011

Watermelon is added as a delicious, new Jumbo Cola flavor.
